Short reflection: Allowing the feeling

Sometimes we can spend so much time trying to work out why we're feeling a certain way.

Why we're sad, anxious, overwhelmed, frustrated - and in binge eating recovery, why we’re experiencing the urge to binge…

That we miss out on simply being with the feeling.

We get so wrapped up in the figuring out, that what’s underlying doesn’t actually get met.

Think of it like this…

Have you ever felt upset about something and opened up to someone else about it, only for them to go straight into problem-solving mode?

In those moments when what you really want is for your feelings to be acknowledged and given some space, this can feel even more upsetting - like you’re not being truly seen or heard.

It’s like this with ourselves, too.

Sometimes, before we try to understand what's going on, what we need most is to simply acknowledge what's here.

“Something is moving through me right now, and I can make room for that.”

So perhaps today you could experiment with allowing a feeling to be there, without needing to work out the why…

And get curious about what you notice when you do.
